UPSC: Gaurav Singh Sogarwal, a native of Bharatpur, Rajasthan, belongs to a family of farmers. He got his initial education at a English high school. After this, he graduated in Electrical Engineering from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune.

Gaurav’s mother passed away in his childhood and when Gaurav turned 14, his father also passed away. Whereupon the responsibility for the entire house fell on his shoulders. Now he had to take care of his brothers in addition to farming. Despite so many responsibilities and struggles, Gaurav continued to move forward in his life.

Where his friends used to have fun during college days. At the same time, Gaurav used to start at 5 in the morning and, along with his studies throughout the day, he used to teach tuition to children to cover household expenses. Somehow, after completing his graduation, he came to Delhi to prepare for UPSC. Here he began teaching at Narayan IIT Academy. Meanwhile, he also had the opportunity to teach at a training institute in Kota. After this job, his life became a little easier. Here he worked for about 2 years and meanwhile he married his sister and also helped in the education of the younger brother. In the midst of all this, UPSC’s preparation lagged behind.

After getting his life back on track, Gaurav began preparing for UPSC. Gaurav’s selection was stalled by a mark in the preliminary examination on his first attempt at UPSC. Whereas, on the second attempt, he was unable to pass the main exam by a grade. However, in the meantime, he was selected into the BSF as an assistant commander. On the first day of training, Gaurav received word that he had scored 99th in the 2015 Civil Services Exam. Gaurav took the UPSC exam again the following year and this time he got 46th. Gaurav didn’t just take over from home and fulfilled responsibilities, but also fulfilled his father’s dream thanks to hard work and dedication.
