Onesumore: Every Video Game Released Based on Netflix Originals

Video game intellectual property is becoming staple property with Netflix working on nearly a dozen video game-based projects, but Netflix has also played a role in its own video games. Below we’ll take a look at all of the video games and crossovers that Netflix has been involved with.

As we mentioned, the other way around, Netflix is fitting a bunch of top tier gaming IPs into TV series and movies, including The division, Sonic the hedgehog and Assasin’s Creed.

We will divide this article into two halves. One focusing on full-length video games based on Netflix Originals and the other where crossovers got to video games.

We will also only include released games, there was a very notable Tellgame in development based on Strange things which was finally canceled given that the studio sank.

Complete List of Netflix IP Based Video Games

Netflix Infinite Runner

Release: early 2017

This little gem was a mobile version that saw some characters from Netflix’s biggest shows at the time, including Marco polo, Narcos, Orange is the new black and Strange things run in a platform style game.

The game was complete with 8-bit interpretations of the theme tunes, but the game has since been taken offline and is no longer available.

Stranger Things: The Video Game

Developer: BonusXP
Posted: November 2017

stranger things video game

Of the two fully released Strange things video games, the former is still in our opinion Netflix’s best foray into video games.

Top-down 2D gameplay reminiscent of the first Grand Theft Auto game lets you explore the town of Hawkins while looking for clues and completing puzzles.

Stranger Things 3: The Video Game

Developped by: BonusXP

For the second game based on Strange things, BonusXP has returned and upped the stakes with new characters, a new look, an expanded story, and a larger version across multiple platforms including PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Switch.

Stranger Things VR Experience

Release: End of 2017

Released on virtual reality devices, this extremely short experience saw you in Will Byer’s house and a series of events ultimately led to a fear of jumping. The experiment takes less than 5 minutes.

Narcos: The Rise of the Cartels

Release date: November 2019

One of the two strategy games now includes fighting cartels with this top-down strategy combined with a third-person shooter that can be compared to games like XCOM.

Critics were often critical, calling it a half-baked experience.

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics

Release date: Early 2020

Based on the now-canceled Dark Crystal reboot series for Netflix, this turn-based strategy game lets you battle the Skesis along with the Gelflings.

The game follows the same rhythms as the main Netflix series story with added comics to help the story.

The reviews weren’t too kind to the game, criticizing it for being hollow and poorly designed menu systems.

Netflix Video Game Crossovers

Stranger things with Minecraft

Minecraft has seen many crossovers with other massive IPs in the past and it was only a matter of time before Stranger Things hit. He did so at the end of 2017 with new skins for Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Eleven, Joyce, Hopper and many more.

Stranger things in Fortnite

Fortnite is often considered the greatest video game of the past decade and has seen a small but notable crossover with Strange things. A number of upside down portals were added to the game before two skins finally made their way onto the game including an outfit for the Demogorgon and Hopper.

Stranger Things with Dead by Daylight

The biggest (and best in our opinion) crossover Stranger Things has had so far is when the Demogorgon was added to the Dead by Daylight monster video game. The video game sees multiple survivors pitted against various hunters and this DLC added the Demogorgon.

Alongside new killer Demogorgon and survivors Nancy Wheeler and Steve Harrington, a new map has been released called The Underground Complex which is located under the Hawkins National Laboratory.
