Onesumore: ‘Monarca’ Canceled at Netflix; Won’t Return for Season 3
Mexican drama Monarch has run its course on Netflix and won’t be returning for Season 3.
First released on Netflix in September 2019, the series finally got a second season that dropped alongside Cobra Kai as of January 1, 2021.
The show managed to stay in the Top 10 Mexican rankings for 27 days while also performing in the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Panama and Honduras. The show also managed to make the top 10 on US TV charts for a few days as well.
But now it looks like the show is over with no Season 3 planned for the future. This is despite Season 2 ending on a pretty big cliffhanger, which makes it hard to recommend watching the show if you haven’t already.
The news was followed closely by Mexican entertainment center Sensacine who said on March 26 that the return of the series is becoming increasingly unlikely citing two Instagram posts from two of the show’s frontrunners.
In one Instagram post on March 26Said Osvaldo Benavides:
“With no news… I say goodbye to Andres Carranza. What an enjoyable project. Thank you for everything and to all of us who were there. What pride to have participated. Leave goodbye. “
Likewise, Irene Azeual posted a similar goodbye on Instagram:
“There are stories that end even if they don’t. A collaboration with people that I admire, a setting full of humor and respect, a loving cast and a first-rate team… I am satisfied that we have made a quality series to show here and in other countries . Now we have to invent an ending, for you who saw it and for us who created it.
Then just a few days later March 28 Sensacine obtained confirmation that the show had been canceled according to Juan Manuel Bernal:
“I am very grateful, moved and surprised by all that this news has caused, which I finally believe already confirmed by the Netflix platform to announce that the third season of Monarch is canceled…
… I understand your annoyance, but I am not the right person to tell your annoyance. I am with you, I am a little upset because it seems to me that the series did not end as it should have ended, there had to be an end, but the decision is not mine, it is not ours, it belongs to the platform ”
However, Netflix’s production in the Mexico region continues to increase. Luis Miguel is perhaps the biggest show in the area right now with the recent arrival Who killed Sara? already lined up for a second season later in 2021.
So there you have it, no turning back for Monarch for Season 3 on Netflix. Are you disappointed that Netflix isn’t bringing another season of Monarch? Let us know in the comments below.
