Gilmore girls (Seasons 1-7)

If you enjoyed the mother-daughter aspect of Ginny and Georgia, we recommend that you check Gilmore Girls.

This classic wellness drama first aired in 2000 and ran for seven seasons. Single mom, Loralei, and her talented daughter, Rory, look more like sisters than mom and daughter. In order to borrow money to pay for Rory’s tuition at the private school, the couple re-establish a relationship with Loralei’s estranged parents, and a weekly “ Friday night dinner ” becomes a tradition.

In a warm, small town setting, the show features very famous faces at the start of their careers. With Alexis Bledel (The Handmaid’s Tale, Mad Men), Lauren Graham (Kinship, cloudy with a risk of meatballs), Melissa McCarthy (Thunderforce, bridesmaids), Scott Patterson (Saw franchise, The event) and Chad Michael Murray (A Cinderella Story, One Tree Hill).

Once you’ve browsed through the original TV series, you can also enjoy a four-part Netflix Original special. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life picks up with the pair nine years after the last episode.

Firefly lane (Season 1) N

If you’re looking for an emotional drama exploring close female friendships, Firefly lane might be a good choice. Based on the popular novel by American author Kristin Hannah, the show covers thirty years of Tully and Kate: two best friends who meet on the first day of school.

Along with plenty of girls’ nights, cocktails, and romances, the series also covers raw topics like divorce, health issues, and what happens when best friends go their separate ways.

While the series has yet to be officially renewed for the second series, we anticipate that decision will come from Netflix soon. After all, there’s still a lot of source material from the novel (and its sequel) to cover.

Moxie (2021) N

This new Netflix Original film also examines mother-daughter relationships, with a more political twist.

When Vivien (Hadley Robinson) finds a radical zine produced by her own mother, she decides to follow in her mother’s footsteps and start a feminist movement in her high school. Directed by and with Amy Poehler. Discover our full article on Moxie here.

To all the boys Deductible N

Fancy a sweet and romantic teen movie, without being out of date? We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the installation with the To all the boys I’ve loved before movie franchise.

Based on the YA novel series of the same name, To all the boys follows the love life of confused high school student Lara-Jean. Whenever she has a crush that she doesn’t know what to do, she writes a letter to the boy and “posts” it in a box inside her closet. However, disaster strikes when someone discovers the secret messages and delivers them to school.

Fortunately, all ends well for Lara-Jean, her crushes and her sisters, and we have two more films to enjoy. The last film brings us to Lara-Jean’s decision on which college to attend. And of course a boy is involved …

Dawson’s Creek (Seasons 1-6)

First aired in 1998, this hormone-fueled teen drama is a bit of a blast from the past. However, fans who first watched it will insist that it is a classic.

The drama follows the pulsating teenager, Dawson Leery (played by James Van Der Beek), and his many relationships and friendships with the other children of Capeside Town and its cove. Back then, the show was notoriously steamy (though you’ll have to judge for yourself).

Like Gilmore Girls, Dawson’s Creek provided the groundbreaking performances of many big names in Hollywood, including Katie Holmes (Phonebooth, Batman begins), Michelle Williams (Brokeback Mountain, my week with Marilyn) and Joshua Jackson (The mighty ducks, little fires everywhere).

Good girls (Seasons 1-4)

Many fans praised the way Ginny and Georgia took the small town drama genre and incorporated much darker elements. If you want to go even darker, we suggest you check Good girls.

Good girls follows a trio of suburban moms who turn to crime in an attempt to solve their financial woes. As they start robbing their local grocery store for more money, they end up getting involved in serious crimes such as money laundering, drug trafficking and worse, with seasoned criminals and scary characters. It’s an interesting exploration of how good people end up being drawn into terrible things.
