Onesumore: Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ Inches closer to Rs 10 Crore mark
Nolan’s “Tenet” managed to rouse the public from their fears and achieved respectful figures at the Indian box office.
Christopher Nolan’s Principle was the first major release in India after an eight-month shutdown of multiplexes and theaters. Released in India on Dec 4, 2020, Principle managed to draw audiences to theaters despite fear of a pandemic. Principle got off to a good start and has since raked in a decent amount at the box office.
According to Box Office India, Principle collected around Rs 1.1-1.2 crore net on the first day. It remained stable over the weekend and collected around Rs 4 crore net on the first weekend. During the week, the first experienced a considerable drop in numbers. In the first week, Principle earned Rs 5.5 crore of which Rs 1.5 crore came on weekdays.
Coming into week two, the film has collected Rs 2.75 crore net over the weekend. He earned around Rs 1 crore on weekdays to bring his two-week total to Rs 9.25 crore. The film should now comfortably cross net 10 crore by the end of the third weekend.
The film has a huge contribution coming from the South with Tamil Nadu in mind. Mumbai and the south contribute over 80% of all India’s collections, of which over 60% come from the south.
Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Tenet is a twisted time travel story of an agent who manipulates the flow of time to prevent World War III. The time travel film stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh in the lead roles.
With Tanet successfully drawing audiences to theaters, theater owners and operators are also eagerly awaiting another major Hollywood release this month: Wonder Woman 1984. Starring Gal Gadot, the superhero film will be released in India December 24, 2020.
