Onesumore: ‘Special’ Season 2: Netflix Release Date & What to Expect
With only 8 episodes to its name and exceptionally short episode lengths, Special is one of the easiest originals to rub. Two years after the show launched on Netflix, it was finally renewed for season 2, albeit with a few caveats both good and bad.
Special is an Original Netflix comedy series created by and freely based on the life experiences of Ryan O’Connell. The events of the series are based on the book Ryan O’Connell published in I’m special: and other lies we tell each other. Ryan O’Connell also stars as series star Ryan Hayes. O’Connell’s contribution to his series also served as his executive producer of the series alongside Jim Parsons, better known as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.

We expected renewal news towards the end of 2019 but that never happened, it seems like it was done in secret given the timing of the renewal. announced via THR, it came with a release date indicating that filming was already over.
Not only Special been very well received by subscribers (although clearly not enough to justify going beyond season 2) but the series Special also got a new rating on 93% Rotten Tomatoes.
The second season will be much longer than the first with episode lengths increasing to 30 minutes each and there will be 8 episodes in total.
It was revealed that they shot four episodes before the pandemic brought them to a halt.

The 8 new episodes of Special Season 2 will arrive on Netflix on May 20, 2021.
What to expect from Season 2 of Special
In the THR article we mentioned above, a lot of things were revealed for the second season, including:
- Season 2 picks up two months after Season 1 with Ryan grappling with writer’s block.
- Expect a focus on Kim de Patel looking to take back control of her life
- Those worried about a cliffhanger given the cancellation can rest easy, the show’s creator said “it feels complete.”
