Onesumore: ‘Splinter Cell’ Netflix Animated Series: What We Know So Far
The video game industry is very rich with interesting stories and compelling characters and Splinter Cell is one of the latest properties to score an animated series adaptation on Netflix, telling the story of iconic black-ops agent Sam Fisher.
The writer and showrunner for Netflix Splinter Cell is Derek Kolstad, known for creating the hit John Wick franchise that stars Keanu Reeves. Kolstad also wrote for No one with Bob Odenkirk and Disney’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He expressed his excitement about working on Splinter Cell in a recent interview with Collider:
“The animation is really cool, man. You send a script and they do it. It’s not about throwing this, this, this or that. It’s like, “What do you want to do, Derek?” “I think that would be cool. ‘That would be cool!’ We start. “
The animation studio behind Netflix Splinter Cell is currently unknown but will be revealed soon according to Kolstad.
What is the plot of Netflix Splinter Cell?
Currently, nothing is known about the plot of the first season of Splinter Cell, but Derek Kolstad commented that each season’s story will be standalone:
“Each season will be autonomous, apart from the evolution of the main character. I like to have a big, a bad, a big story and a background story, with the A / B of it all, and yet I watch everything I do – well, almost everything – especially in the movies and in the television, like the best westerns. He’s leaving at sunset because he’s gonna do the same fucking thing in the next town until he dies doing it.
Will the animated series be linked to the games?
This is also unknown, but given the great success of the games, we would expect a completely original plot with recognizable elements from the games. Maybe some of the missions or villains could be part of the series or even locations and nod to some iconic game mechanics.
What is the state of development of Splinter Cell?
The first season of Splinter Cell is currently being drafted, according to Kolstad. During his last interview in March 2021, he was finishing the bible from the first season and sending it to the others. He also said the writing process will likely take six more months.
When Splinter Cell be published on Netflix?
Derek Kolstad explained that the release of Netflix Splinter Cell won’t be anytime soon, but rather maybe in 2022 or later:
“Probably two years. Probably, no, about 18 months. These things, from start to finish, last from 18 months to two years. My work will be done in probably six months with the other writers. And yet you’re always good to go, like, ‘This isn’t working. This line is null. The actor wants to do something cool. But I also believe that, especially in animation, if they can have all the episodes in hand, I also make it easy for them. “
Will any of the voices of the game reprise their roles in the Netflix series?
Nothing is currently known about the potential vocal distribution of Splinter Cell, but it’s very likely that Netflix is trying to recruit video game voices like they did with Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness animated series. We certainly hope that at least Michael ironside will return as the unmistakable voice of Sam Fisher once again.
How many seasons are there for Netflix Splinter Cell?
Netflix has ordered 16 episodes of Splinter Cell each episode being 20 to 30 minutes long. The first season will consist of the first 8 episodes and the second season will include the other half of the ordered episodes. That being said, renewal is still possible down the line.
