The Kominsky method returns for one final outing, but with major changes in season 3, including the biggest one Alan Arkin won’t be returning. Here’s everything we know so far about Season 3 of The Kominsky method coming to Netflix in 2021.
The comic series Chuck Lorre is the second comedy series that the famous producer (behind The Big Bang Theory and Two and a half men) has put on Netflix so far.
His first was the now condemned Unstitched series that lasted only one season, but The Kominsky method surpassed that and is easily one of the best comedies on Netflix. Prove that these are the three nominations that Netflix has chosen for it (Netflix has won 160 nominations in total) at the 2020 Emmys, these being for:
- Main actor in a comedy series
- Supporting actor in a comedy series
- Comedy series
The first season arrived on Netflix in November 2018, and season 2 dropped on October 25, 2019.

AT The Kominsky method been renewed for season 3?
Official renewal status: Renewed (last update: 07/01/2020)
For over six months, the series appeared to be in limbo as Netflix had not officially announced a third season. However, that changed in July 2020 when Netflix officially announced he would return but with the warning that it would be the last entry on the Netflix show.
The renewal was carried out by Netflix in early 2020, according to some sources, but was not announced publicly until later in the year.
Chuck Lorre on the renewal said:
“It was an amazing experience to see the warm response from the audience and the critics. I am delighted to conclude the story with this final chapter. “
In a subsequent interview, Chuck Lorre spoke about the show and how it differs from creating comedy series for other networks. He also spoke about the third season in depth, saying:
“This third season seems like the right way to go, we think we can bring it to a very satisfying end. I’m writing it now. I do not know [the ending] yet, I hope I will find out as I write,
Before the renewal, we were 50/50 when the show came back.
In 2019, Chuck Lorre praised his show telling THR that The Kominsky method was one of his main axes saying, “I’m micromanaging the hell out of Kominsky. It’s been my baby this year.
In one interview with Collider In November 2019, when asked about the third season and ongoing conversations, Michael Douglas said there were ongoing conversations. He added, “He hopes all the moving parts line up together.”
When The Kominsky method does season 3 start filming?

When the series was initially renewed, filming was not allowed to begin due to the ongoing pandemic that has shut down most Netflix productions.
In an interview in July, Lorre was hopeful that production of his shows would resume in the fall of 2020 and that seems to be the case with many Netflix shows, but we don’t yet have confirmation that The Kominsky method followed suit.
In December 2020, we had a word via the filming permits reported by Variety, this shooting had started the third and final season. Specifically, filming had resumed in Los Angeles, California at some point in November 2020.

It has been confirmed by Netflix that the final season of The Kominsky Method is coming to Netflix on Friday May 28, 2021.

Alan Arkin won’t be returning for season 3
The biggest change in season 3 is going to be the departure of Alan Arkin who will not return for a third season which was confirmed end of September 2020.
No official reason for his departure has been given, although Deadline says it was a decision taken a long time ago.
He won’t mysteriously disappear on the show, but instead he’s written off, which could be done in a way.
Alan Arkin may not be involved in The Kominsky method season 3, but you can find the actor in another Netflix project released in early 2020 in the form of his role in More confidencel.
Who else is involved in season 3?
Chuck Lorre is again expected to write and direct all episodes with Nick Bakay, Mackenzie Gabriel, Al Higgins, Bob Broder and Michael Douglas all attached as producers.
IMDb updates confirm Lisa Edelstein will return as Pheob, Jane Seymour will return as Madelyn, and Katheleen Turner will appear as Ruth again.
